We all know that many men experience hair loss as they grow older, but a surprising number of women find they are losing hair as well.
While there can be many causes for hair loss, one often overlooked cause may be may be the presence of toxins in the hair products they use.
Sulfates, silicones, phenoxyethanol, phthalates, parabens, and artificial fragrances are some of the toxins that can damage hair follicles. And they can be found in many hair care products.
So the first step in combating hair loss is to replace these toxic products with all natural products - like those found in the doTERRA hair care line.
doTERRA's hair care products are not only toxin-free but also contain essential oils that benefit hair. And some of those essential oils even help regrow hair. (see below)
I personally use nothing but doTERRA for my hair so I can tell you from personal experience that these products work well, smell great, and provide peace of mind knowing my hair care products are not contributing to hair loss.
The doTERRA hair care line includes. . .
Can’t find the hair care product you are looking for in the doTERRA hair care line? Instead of reaching for a synthetic, chemical-ridden product from the drug store why not make your own using all-natural, toxin-free essential oils?
Here are a few popular recipes to get you started. . .
Many essential oils are good for hair – and some have even been shown to help regrow it. These include. . .
Rosemary Oil: When applied to the scalp Rosemary essential oil has been shown to increase hair growth as much as minoxidil, the active ingredient in Rogaine. In one study , two groups of patients with androgenic hair loss were treated with either minoxidil or rosemary essential oil.
After 6 months of treatment both groups experienced a significant - and similar - increase in hair count.
Note
Neither the minoxidil nor the rosemary oil group showed significant hair regrowth after only 3 months of treatment. Patience pays when trying to regrow hair!
Lavender Oil: One animal study found that lavender oil had a marked hair growth promoting effect when applied to the backs of mice.
In this study mice were divided into 5 groups, which were then treated with either saline, jojoba oil, 3% minoxidil, 3% lavender oil or 5% lavender oil once a day for 5 days a week.
After just 4 weeks the groups treated with minoxidil, 3% lavender oil and 5% lavender oil all showed a significantly increased number of hair follicles, deepened hair follicle depth, and a thickened dermal layer, when compared to the saline and jojoba oil treatment groups.
Peppermint Oil: One study found that peppermint oil, when used on mice, increased the number of follicles, follicle depth, and overall hair growth – outperforming minoxidil!
In this study 4 groups of mice were treated topically with either saline , jojoba oil, 3% minoxidil, or 3% peppermint oil.
After 4 weeks the peppermint oil treatment group showed the most prominent hair growth effects with a significant increase in dermal thickness, follicle number, and follicle depth.
Tea Tree Oil: Tea tree oil has strong antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory properties which have proven therapeutic benefit for inflammatory skin diseases.
Postulating that infection and/or microinflammation of the hair follicles might be a cause of hair loss, researchers conducted a 32-week double-blind, randomized, placebo-controlled study to assess it’s effect on hair re-growth.
They showed that a microemulsion of minoxidil, diclofenac, and tea tree oil was superior to placebo and to minoxidil alone in terms of hair regrowth. The Tea tree mixture also achieved an earlier response than minoxidil alone.
There are many ways to to use essential oils to help re-grow your here. Here are a few. . .
Note
Rosemary, Peppermint and Thyme are “hot oils”. Be careful not to get these in your eyes.
If you do get them in your eyes, immediately rinse your eyes out with an oil such as fractionated coconut oil or olive oil Do not rinse with water: While they are not greasy, essential oils are true oils and do not mix with water..
