The doTERRA Compensation Plan

There are five different ways to make money as a doTERRA wellness advocate (if any of the terms in this article are unfamiliar please see my page, doTERRA compensation plan terms, to find an explanation of each of them):

  • Retail sales
  • Fast start bonuses
  • Power-of-3 Bonuses
  • Uni-level bonuses and
  • Corporate profit sharing or "Leadership" pools.

In this article I go over retail sales,  fast start bonuses and Power-of-3 Bonuses.  In my next article I will explain the main doTERRA compensation plan - uni-level bonuses - and then will go over the doTERRA leadership pools.

1. Retail Sales

As a doTERRA Wellness Advocate you can purchase products at wholesale prices and then resell them at retail (or higher).

This is similar to selling supplements out of your office. You will receive a minimum 25% commission on all products sold this way. (You can charge more than the stated retail price of a doTERRA product if you choose - which, of course will give you a greater profit - but you may not sell products for less than the stated retail price.)

Creating Links  to Products

In addition to selling doTERRA products directly, you can also create links to products on the free website you receive when you sign up as a doTERRA Wellness Advocate.

Retail customers can then purchase the product by clicking on the link. You will receive a 25% commission on these sales.

This is an awesome feature because it means you don’t have to carry every essential oil or product that you might want to prescribe or offer your patients in your office.  

It also lets you sell essential oils and products directly from your own website or newsletter.

For example, I might not want to sell things like laundry detergent and cleaning products from my office. But I could write an article on avoiding toxins around the home in my newsletter and include links to these products.

Note that retail sales made from your doTERRA website contribute to your total personal volume or PV for the month in which they were made. This helps you qualify for Fast-Start, Power-of-Three and Uni-Level bonuses. 

Retail commissions from your website are paid out monthly.

Retail Sales

You can sell doTERRA products directly from your office or from your website by linking to them.  You receive a 25% commission from your website sales.

Sales from your (doTERRA) website also contribute to your PV for the month, which helps you qualify for Fast Start and Uni-Level Bonuses. 


2. Fast-Start Bonuses

Fast-Start Bonuses are commissions paid on the total personal volume (PV) purchased by new wellness advocates or wholesale customers within their first 60 days. These bonuses are paid to 3 levels.

Here’s how it works. . .

When you enroll a new Wellness Advocate or wholesale customer you will receive a 20% commission on all PV they purchase in their first 60 days.

When these Wellness Advocates enroll a new Wellness Advocate or wholesale customer (who would then be on your second level) you receive a 10% on the PV those Wellness Advocates purchase in their first 60 days.

And when your second level Wellness Advocates enroll a new Wellness Advocate or wholesale customer (who would then be on your third level) you receive a 5% commission on all PV they purchase in their first 60 days.

Each PV is worth $1.00 and fast-start bonuses are paid out weekly.  

NOTE: To qualify for this bonus you must have a loyalty rewards template set to at least 100 PV and have completed a 100 PV or greater loyalty rewards order for the month in which you would be paid.

3. Power-of-Three Bonuses

The “Power-of -3 Bonus” is an important component of the doTERRA compensation plan because it provides a means for you, as a new Wellness Advocate, to start receiving a nice commission fairly quickly.

It also encourages you to structure your down-line in a way that will make you the most money over the long term. That is to build “down” or to add new Wellness Advocates to your deeper levels rather than “across” or to your first level. 

With this bonus, when you add 3 new Wellness Advocates to your first level you receive a $50 bonus.

When these three Wellness Advocates each add 3 new Wellness Advocates to their first level (which would be your second level) you will receive a $250 bonus.

And when each of these second level Wellness Advocates adds 3 new wellness advocates to their first level (which would be your third level) you will receive a very generous $1500 bonus.

Qualification For the Power-of-3 Bonuses

There are a few qualifications you must meet in order to receive power of 3 bonuses.

  • To qualify to receive the $50 bonus, you must have placed a loyalty rewards order of 100 PV or more for that month and at least 3 of the Wellness Advocates on your first level must have done the same.  In addition, your total “team volume” - or the combined PV purchased by you plus the Wellness Advocates on your fist level and your retail customers - must be at least 600.
  • To qualify for the $250 bonus you must meet the requirements for the $50 bonus and three of the Wellness Advocates on your first level must also meet these qualifications.
  • And to qualify the $1500 bonus, you, at least 3 of the Wellness Advocates on your first level and 3 of the Wellness Advocates on your second level must meet the qualification for the $50 bonus.

Power-of-3 bonuses are paid out monthly and they are paid every month that you meet these qualifications.


Strategies to Ensure You Qualify for Power-of-3 Bonuses

There are two strategies that help insure that you meet the qualifications to receive the power of 3 bonuses every month.

1. The First Strategy is to place a $150 PV loyalty rewards order each month and to teach your down-line Wellness Advocates to do the same. This will ensure that your “team volume” will be at least 600.

2. The Second Strategy is to build to the power of 4 or 5 instead of 3. That is, to place 4 or 5 Wellness Advocates on your first level rather than just 3 before starting to place them on your second level.

That way, if one wellness advocate does not have a 150 PV order for a particular month, you are still likely to qualify for the power-of-3 bonus.

NOTE:

Wellness Advocates that you personally recruit do not need to be placed on your first level. Instead you can strategically place them under people in your lower levels in order to maximize your bonus income.

In addition, you can place orders under people in your lower levels in order to meet your qualifications for a given month. 

For example: If only two people on your first level place 100 PV orders for a particular month, you can place a 100  PV order for a third person on that level so that you meet the requirement of having 3 people on your first level place 100 PV orders for the month.

Once you have your down-line built out to your 3rd level, you can start to build another “leg” in your organization.

Once again you would start by putting 4 - 5 new Wellness Advocates on your first level. You will receive the same power-of-3 bonuses on your second and subsequent legs as on your first.
